WECIL’s Check in and Chat service supports Disabled adults who are feeling isolated and would like someone to talk to regularly. Volunteers make weekly calls to members of our community for 12 weeks, having friendly conversation, lending a supportive ear and signposting to services as required.
The service was originally set up in in October 2020 in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Coronavirus has disproportionately affected Disabled people in many different ways including loneliness and isolation. However, we have recently been successful in securing an additional 2 years of funding for the project, enabling befriending to become a core part of WECIL services. We want to continue to support our community to make positive connections by linking them with a friendly volunteer who will lend a supportive ear over the phone.
Please be aware there is currently a waiting list for this service as we recruit volunteers. It could take a few months before we can match you with one of our Telefriender’s.
If you would like to receive a weekly phone call from one of our Telefriend volunteers you can refer yourself by completing an online form https://forms.office.com/r/D5DgeYvqgn. Alternatively, you can contact the Project Worker Rosalind on telephone: 07973686001 or Email: checkin@wecil.co.uk
If you are a professional wishing to refer someone to the service with their consent you can complete an online referral form https://forms.office.com/r/D5DgeYvqgn or contact the Project Worker, Rosalind, whose details are above.
