Disabled People’s helpline

WECIL runs a helpline for disabled people in Bristol to get in touch with any disability-related question.

Your questions answered

Our advisors can answer your queries on a range of topics, such as:

  • Where can I get a blue badge?
  • How can I apply for a disability-related welfare benefit?
  • My child has additional needs – are there any services she can access?

If there is a question we cannot answer we will signpost you to somewhere that can, or give you as much information as possible.

Benefits Advice

If you are a Bristol citizen and identify as a disabled person, we can advise and support you in applying for disabled people's related welfare benefits

  • Give you advice over the phone
  • Support you to complete an application for disabled people’s benefits: Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance for Children (DLA), and Attendance Allowance (AA)
  • Offer advice and support with mandatory reconsiderations and appeals

As our appointments are limited, WECIL have worked alongside our benefits advisors and the WECIL Community to produce some self-help films to guide you through the process of claiming a disabled persons benefits. We advise that you watch these films before contacting us as they might be able to answer some of your questions. The films have been co-produced by members of the WECIL community who have been through the process of claiming these benefits.

We understand that not everyone will be able to use the films so we are working on creating some easy to read self help guides which can be posted or downloaded from our website. However in the meantime if you need further support please contact our advice line and we will be happy to give you some advice and guidance around your disability related benefit claim.
